Band Camp

July 27th - 31st

Camp Swoneky - Lebanon, OH

This year,  the New Albany Band is excited to host band camp at Camp Swonkey in Lebanon, Ohio! Eagle Guard members attend band camp to learn and prepare for fall performances with the band! At camp, students will have focused learning time, and have the opportunity to participate in camp activities, such as a bonfire, swimming, camp games, and more!

Band camp is not mandatory, however, it is extremely useful for students to attend to develop the necessary skills to earn weekly performance spots. Students will learn the basic skills they need for marching band and guard. We will learn the majority of the shows for this season at band camp. Occasionally, strong students can miss camp but still earn a spot for a halftime or pre-game show.

Camp is also a great bonding experience for the guard and the band. Students leave camp excited about the band and excited to see their peers at practice and performance each week. Many NAHS Band Alumni rate band camp as one of the top memories of high school. It provides an outstanding way to learn the performance material, make new friends, and enjoy a focused time working together on music!

Students who do not attend camp may fall behind, which can result in an alternate standing in the beginning weeks of the season. Students who miss camp and are not ready to perform still attend the performances (games) and serve as alternates during the games. By serving as alternates, they are spared the pressure of performing before ready.
